Clusters & Networks

Mutual Benefit

The Neckar-Alb business landscape is dominated by mid-sized companies, with everything from young up-and-comers to world market leaders in a diverse range of industries. This page provides an overview of the region's many clusters and the cluster initiatives formed by these companies. Because no matter how new or how shiny, there are no modern means of communication that can ever replace the one thing every successful company needs: Face-to-face contact.

Regional clusters and networks actively bring together companies from the following key industries: Mechanical engineering, automotive, biotechnology, medical technology, textiles, and timber and renewable energies. Closely knit networks lead to synergies and spill-over effects that guarantee the economic success of the Swabian region, while improved communication between companies and research institutions allows each industry to distinguish itself from competitors outside of the Neckar-Alb region.

BioRegio STERN

BioRegio STERN Management GmbH promotes the creation and development of – and cooperation between – biotechnology companies working in the field of medicine, placing particular focus on regenerative biology and medicine. The cluster’s initiatives promote cross-sector and transnational synergies, as well as the convergence of the life science and automation industries. Furthermore, it helps its members apply for funding and corporate financing in order to encourage a strong, competitive industry. Over the years, BioRegio STERN has built up its own infrastructure for information within the industry.

This network helps its members to overcome the increasing pressures of the industry caused by shortened product cycles and strict international quality standards. Just a few examples of the cluster's activities and achievements include the TecNet groups and the practice of joint patent applications among member companies.
